About Broad Bay Church
Our Mission
Broad Bay seeks to serve God and follow Christ as a progressive church in the greater Waldoboro area. Broad Bay’s ministry is to the community at large. We welcome people in times of crisis and celebration, seek partnerships with other community organizations, and work to share God’s love and acceptance. We welcome and celebrate people of every age, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious background, economic circumstance, and mental or physical ability to the spiritual life of the church as we join in sharing the life, leadership, and ministry of Broad Bay.
A member of the United Church of Christ, Broad Bay covenants with local and national church bodies while also participating in a worldwide interfaith community.
Our Pastor
Reverend Nancy Duncan has served Broad Bay since 2004. A family therapist, she worked with at risk children for over 15 years. Nancy said, “People are searching for hope and transformation. Whatever their circumstance, I want people to know they are not alone.”

Music is a vital part of Broad Bay
Our Organ
The restoration (in two phases, 2008 and 2023) of Broad Bay’s historic 1875 Hook & Hastings organ pipes was a perfect blend of history and creativity. While many assumed the pipes were originally gold-toned, a historic photograph revealed intricate detailing, inspiring a fresh yet historically grounded design. The Organ Pipe Committee, led by Evelyn Clowes, selected colors already present in the church—greens, off-white, blue, and deep red—to create harmony with the space. Adding a local touch, anchor crosses, a nod to Waldoboro’s rich shipbuilding past, became a central motif. The result? A visually stunning, historically inspired new creation that not only looks magnificent but also honors the organ’s place in the community’s musical and cultural heritage.
Concerts
Broad Bay Church is actively involved in bringing concert events to the Waldoboro area. Broad Bay concerts are varied in purpose and type. The recent Four Seasons String Concert was a multi-media event in conjunction with the Medomak Valley Land Trust. The annual Organ Concert supports the Broad Bay music ministry and ensures that the historic Hook and Hastings organ remains in top condition. Concerts are also held to support local groups, such as New Hope for Women, an area organization founded to end domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
